The shallower part of the Rhone is in about 20 feet of water. While I would say it is more interesting as a second dive (after the main section of the ship), I have heard people say they enjoyed snorkeling it.

I've snorkeled & scuba'd it. If the water is clear you can see the stern of the wreck pretty well. If it's really clear & calm you can see the deeper sections as large dark objects from the surface. It being a wreck the whole area attracts fish. There is a dinghy mooring that is just a little west of the stern. Start there & follow the bits of wreckage on the bottom. They will take you to the stern. Also swim toward Salt Island around the rocks near the stern & you should see many fish! There can be a helluva current running east to west which can make for a hard swim over but very easy coming back. If conditions are good it can be a very worth while snorkel.

Have Fun,
Jim W

There are some other great snorkeling spots on Salt Is. (My book about the Rhone is at home) I'll post again and list then tonight, or tomorrow.

OK the book I have talks about several places but is a little skimpy on describing the locations. It is also biased towards scuba, so I will limit this to places that I can give you an idea where it is, and that can be enjoyed by snorkelers. The two most obvious and great snorkel spots in the Rhone neighborhood would be the Indians, and the Caves. Both of these are just off of Norman Island. I should add if your going to be at Norman Is. you'd be nuts not to have lunch at the Willie T! (Google it) Rhone reef at Salt Is. (ask a local for exact location. Markoe Point, Cooper Is. (lots of nurse sharks) Shark Point off the southern tip of Peter Is. (between Salt Is. and Norman) Turtle Grass Flats (North shore of Salt) Hop this helps.
