Hi
I think the reference to socks was not with sandals. We were wandering around Havensite when the cruise ships were in and we saw many white legged men with black socks and sandals, also women in panty hose with shorts!

That was when we decided to NEVER go on a cruise, it seems they are too busy worrying about being on time for meals, side trips and missing the boat to reallly relax and enjoy the beautiful islands and see what they are really about.

Does anyone know how much revenue they bring in compared to those of us who spend their vacation dollars staying on the island? As I've said before, the locals seem a lot friendlier when they know you are staying on the island yet they seem to cater to the cruise ship crowd.

6 weeks to go!

I wonder why people do that - socks with sandals? Is it becuase they have not unattractive feet? Or, do they think this is okay to wear? Are they people who lived in a year round cool climate and have neevr worn sandals before? Or, do they just want to buck the fashion rules?

New sandals....blisters.....That's all I can think of why you would wear socks with sandals.

Hose with shorts??? Maybe in the 70's with hot pants. Anyone remember them? Someone is stuck in the 70's

I had to jump in to this post, you all are very funny worrying about black socks, white socks....who really cares.

Enjoy your vacation and wear what ever.lol

I think its blisters, they are tenderfoots and worry about getting blisters from wearing just sandles. Or else, they fear the uncovered foot for some reason. My weird-o mother is like this, actually wears these tiny little toe cover things if she has open toed shoes on. Just a theory or two. I say, be wary of any guy who wears white shoes and black socks with shorts, they scare me. Also, women with very large handbags- what are they carrying that requires that much space? Lets all go naked, carry knapsacks, and to hell with worrying about our clothes.

Okay, I know this is gross, but there is a "public service announcement" in this response! I, admittedly, went to a doctor last year over a foot fungus that got "out of control". She told me that it is amazing how many people have a similar fungus but do nothing to treat it (3 months of Lamisil tablets later, I am cured). The white socks over sandals is probably to hide the gross toenails associated with this fungus. Okay - the gross part is over, but here's the "public service announcement": wear shower shoes in all public showers - including hotel/condo/cruise ship showers! Yes, the room attendants clean them, but can you trust that they are really disinfected? I now bring my shower shoes (rubber sandals - $5-$8 at WalMart) whenever I travel.

Okay, I admit I wore socks with sandals once - no, wait, let me explain. It was to a "tacky tourist night" party and I wore (gasp!) black socks with my white sandals, loud tropical shorts with a different print top, a Corvette visor and carried a Little Switzerland bag. I took first prize - a $25 bar tab. My sister was similarly attired and took second - a drink of her choice and a pizza.

Okay, normally I wouldn't be caught DEAD in socks and sandals, but I do have to grudgingly admit that they were pretty comfortable. Another participant in this contest, a local who typically is barefoot ALL the time, also mentioned that they were darned comfortable, but I notice that he's still barefoot.
