I just searched through the old messages to see if people had any problems using spirit air and a few months ago it sounded like it was 6 of 1 and 1/2 doz. of the other. Anyone out there have good or bad things to say about them? My husband and I decided to go back to St. John this fall and right now they are the best ticket price out of Chicago.
Thanks in advance for any info!
Liza

lisamay:

We just returned from STT on September 16th via Spirit Air.

Our travel started on September 9th from Atlantic City to Fort Lauderdale to STT.

Everything went extremely well. All flights were on time, new equipment (Airbus 319's) and luggage arrived safely.

This was the second time we used Spirit to STT. The first time went as well as the second. Plus we got good deals both times.

Spirit is a great airline. You shouldn't have any problems with them.

Lip,
We used to live in Margate down at the Shore and flew out of A.C. a lot. It is nice to park there and fly out if you can. I will say that flights to STT from Philly are easier being direct and the long term parking at Philly is pretty easy to navigate in and out of. Come out of the airport hit the Walt Witman bridge and then zoom back to the shore.

If you fly Spirit out of A.C. you connect in Ft. Lauderdale and have to worry about delays there and also that Spirit terminal in Lauderdale sucks in my opinion. It is small and only has a Nathans Hot Dog stand and sometimes West Indian food being sold by a vendor. There is only one flight per day out of Ft. Lauderdale to STT so if for any reason you miss it you either have to wait for the next afternoon or drive quickly down to Miami for an American flight. There are less chances of the direct flight out of Philly being cancelled and if it is you are close to home and did not waste a day on the road. JMHO

Hey EC, thanks for the responce... i live in margate too. i actually won free round trip tickets at a fund raiser at the log cabin last month (woo hoo) but spirit scares me. i usually fly USAIR direct flight 1424 and they only loose my luggage half the time. lol well i guess i will go to roberts place order up some wings and a miller lite and mull it over.

We fly spirit all the time ( at least 10 years) and haven't had any problems. We have had some minor delays here and there but nothing one wouldn't expect to happen from time to time...have never missed the next leg of a flight if there was one. We also live in the shore area( Somers Point) and flying out of AC is so much more convenient than driving up to Philly. Perhaps the convenience of leaving so close to home balances the stop-over in FLL?

We almost always find a "deal" on flights booking directly thru spirit air website....daily "looking" will help find some better rates. A couple times we have seen drastic reductions in airfare and have rebooked the same flights for a fee. They issue vouchers of the balance due which must be used w/i 1 year. Next up we are going from AC to San Francisco w/ a stop in Detroit , for only $100 pp each way...pretty good deal we thot!

So to the original poster...I have experienced nothing but safe, comfortable, affordable air travel w/ Spirit! Good luck!

lip,
It is a small world. I lived at 101 N. Clarendon Blvd in Margate for a couple years and have very fond memories. The A.C. airport was tough to beat on some trips with its convenience and cheap parking. A cold beer and wings from Roberts Place would be good. I used to have a lot of the restaurants in Margate, Ventnor and Longport on speed dial especially Barrels in Margate.
The weather down here might be better but man some days I miss the food or at least the huge selection of food.

Sign up for Spirit's "e-mail" fares. They're sent every Wednesday or Thursday. This weeks special from ACY to Fort Lauderdale was $1.00 or $5.00 each way depending on dates.

Our fare last week was "a buy one get one free". Our ACY to STT round trip was $286. (then you get one free). That translates into $71.50 each way for two trips.

Connie:

Yes, you read it right.

Spirit's last week specials (for certain dates) included ACY to FLL for $1.00 and $5.00 (plus taxes/fees). While on our return from FLL to ACY (September 16) two people sitting in front of us paid $8.00 (plus taxes) for that flight. We paid what amounted to $71.50 (plus taxes) for our ACY to STT flight (one way) after our buy one get one free offer.

Yesterday Spirit sent an e-mail with their "Red Light Specials". One special was ACY to FLL for $69. each way. Some were as low as $39. Their best bargains come out on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

My husband and I were lucky enough to book the $1 flight ACY to FLL for a Jan trip....we counted 11 days forward and got a return at $89 ea. Good deal for us as we had a $180 voucher, so entire round trip cost us out of pocket a little over $40. So pay attention to those emails as the good rates go fast!

Dollar flights? I am signing up!

When the hawk hits Philly, those $1 flights to FLL will be a nice way to warm up for a weekend. I wonder if they'll offer it where someone can just go for 2 or 3 nights.

Awesome deal - thanks!

Actually we have tried to get the special rate deal BOTH ways and for whatever reason the transaction won't go thru online. Often the dates they post for special fares havent given us good return options....either too soon (next day) or whatever. A great deal one way is definately a BIG help!...but they do offer some 2 for 1's and other deals...and they are fairly creative.

We have been going to the island since the 70's and - now for the most part, always used American airlines. I used spirit this past summer, 06 and it was just fine. The only thing, I recommend, is at Ft. Lauderdale, they need a little more organization, at the airport, with bathroom facilities and food court? but that is not Spirit's - Spirit was fine and we will go again...
