Coach:

The island is very nice just quieter than St Thomas because very few cruise ships call any more.

Lots to do: golf, scuba, casino, sight seeing, good beaches, and many fine restraunts.

Hello Coach,

Do a search on the board, there are quite a number of St. Croix discussions and vacation reports. The search option is just below the picture of the Settlers Handbook in the row of books at the top of this page.

To dos: Try several of the great restaurants there: here are a few Tutto Bene, Off the Wall, Mermaid Restaurant, Fort Christian Brew Pub, Bacchus, Rum Runners... Visit a few of the beaches; Cane Bay, Chenay Bay, Buccaneer Beach, the beach at Protestant Cay... visit the historical sites/attractions; Forts, Whim Plantation, Laweatz Museum, Rum Factory, Botanical Gardens... take a charter to Buck Island... catch the Jump Up, Sunset Jazz, Caribbean show or other local event happening while you are there (you can visit the events schedule on this site to see whats going on; in the General Guide menu at the top of this page choose Local Events)... you can go to the casino... do an island tour on your own by rental car or with a taxi tour... if the Landmark society is hosting a Ruins tour that would be nice... you could do horseback in the rainforest or a hiking tour, have a few beers wth the beer drinking pigs or watch the crab races over dinner... an intro dive class or if you are certified a wreck dive, a kayak eco-tour, fishing trip.

Lots to do - what interest you? how long are you going for? where you staying? are you renting a car? family trip/honeymoon/going alone/business trip?

When are you going?

The island is nice, quiet and very beautiful.
Any specific questions? We were there in August and will be glad to answer any questions.

Islander, Yvonne,
Thanks for you reply. This is our (Wife and I) first time to the USVI.
I will be there form Jan 12 - 17. We are going, we made a quick decision for a vacation... just found out she is with child. So, We can't go anywhere for Spring Break or Summer.
We are staying at the Divi and plan to rent a jeep to tour the island, rum factory, beaches etc...... she would like to rest & read - I want to fish & play. If we take a trip to Buck Island - will the water be to rough for her? If she wants to snorkle - is it safe? Are the Lobster meals reasonably priced? Thanks, C

The Divi is very nice. We rented a car and drove to that area one day. It is on the far end of the island and away from everything, but then the island is not too big and doesn' t take too long to get to anywhere. You will be near Point Udall, which is the eastern most point in the US. It is an awsome sight.
Buck Island is great and very beautiful. I can't answer if the water will be rough cause that will depend upon the weather that day. The water was kind of rough the day we went and if I were pregnant, I would not snorkle the underwater trail. However, once the boat lands at Buck Island, the water is very calm there and very blue and is perfectly safe. Even if she doesn't do the underwater trail, she will enjoy the trip. We went with Capt. Heinze, which leaves out of Green Cay Marina. A couple that stayed at the Divi was on our boat so he must advertise there. He has a 42 ft. catamaran and takes a much smaller crew out than some of the larger tour boats. He knows his stuff about sailing.
You have the right idea of renting a car to tour the island. STX is one of the most beautiful and calming islands we have been to in our ventures of the Caribbean. Go to the crab races at the Brew Pub on the boardwalk on Monday night. That is fun. Good place to people watch and funny thing to see. There are so many good places to eat that you will be overwhelmed. We did not get the chance to eat lobster just for the fact that we ran out of time, but had several say how good it is. Heard several say that Duggans is great for lobster, which I believe is near the Divi.
There is so much more that I could go on and on...
If you would like to email me with specific questions, please feel free to do so.

In November I will be going to St. Croix for the first time in my life. I have traveled to Barbados for more than 15years and I continue to go back there because of the beaches are so beautiful.

I want to know about the most popular beach on St. Croix. I am staying at the Buccuneer Hotel and I was hoping that they had a nice beach. I am traveling to St. Croix for rest and relaxation and the sun and beach.

Please reply

PS where can I buy for the best deals in perfumes.

Carolina,

There's a wonderful place called Violettes that's located in the Caravelle Arcade in downtown Christiansted that you shouldn't miss if you're looking for perfumes. Two large rooms with glass display cases filled with every kind of perfume you could ask for! My mother and I had a fun hour in there while my husband and dad enjoyed sitting in the airconditioning and cooling off from all the walking.

The pretty young lady who works there was fun to talk to--- she was a goldmine of information on where to eat and fun things to do on the island.

Linda's right about the Buccanneer beach. Also go to Buck Island for a 1/2 or whole day, white sandy beach and unbelievablely clear water to snorkle in.

Also, if they are still there, the beer drinking pigs at Domino's. The crab races are fun, the rum factory tour is great, Buck Island is a must do. Visit Point Udall, go to Crammer Beach, see the huge satalite on the north east end of the island. Look for the contessa's castle. Dive the wall at Cane Beach, go on the "submarine" ride in Christianstead Harbor,......so much to do......so little time. Enjoy!!!

I plan on moving to St. Croix in the next 2 years and visiting in the next year to find a place to live. Could anyone tell me where is a good area to live that is reasonabily priced. I plan on renting at first until I can find a 2 or 3 bedroom home. I will be a massage therapist soon and will also like to find work in that area. Currently I am a web and graphics designer. Of the two fields which one is easier to find work in? I assume massage therapy since there are resorts in the area.

Thanks so much!

We have been frequent visitors to St. John - outstanding island! Thinking of renting a villa in STX - any suggestions? Prefer something "on the sand". Thanks all.
