we are staying at perelandra, a villa on the hillside overlooking cruz bay in march and have heard it is very near the sirenusa monstrosity that's been growing in the neighborhood. can anyone from the area or anyone who's stayed near there recently comment on it's impact on paradise?...we booked this place specifically to get away from "civilization"...thanks guys.

nothing should have been built on stj after 1917, it should have been left as is when the states bought the territory.

Thanks to local politicians lining their own pockets, these companies do not have to abide by strict regulations. The condo project is going to be higher than the fire dept can accommodate! Italian architecture condos totally out of step with St John style. I have heard from someone who lives below the project there has been very little progress lately! They are thankful it is quiet but still an awful eyesore!

My wife and I found beautiful St John about 7 years ago. We stayed at a condo abouve the town of Cruz Bay. We felt like we had found a little piece of heaven. It was very serene and all we could hear were the birds.
Now with the new Sirenusa project we were told we should be VERY aware of the NOISE from early to late.We were told by management that we would not even be able to sit by the pool.
We have not been back since this project started and DO NOT INTEND TO GO BACK ANY TIME SOON!!!
Ask about the noise before you rent , It may save your vacation!!

Overman,
My wife and I stayed at Perelandra in April of 07, had a fantastic time. It is well maintained, private, great view. We only noticed the noise a few times, sounded like someone was using a jackhammer, otherwise no problems. Trying to find a time to get back there, hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

We were fortunate to have stayed at Perelandra earlier this year (beginning of January). Really enjoyed our stay. Had noise 1 day but were told (by the workers we passed on the way down to town) that they were digging to lay the foundations for a large retaining wall at the bottom of the development. And when that was through it should be pretty quiet. True to their word, by mid-day the next day, it was very quiet and really stayed that way throughout our stay.

The views from Perelandra are amazing and it's really very private; nicely furnished with everything you could need. We loved feeding & watching the sugarbirds, having cocktails on the deck each night watching the sunset, going to sleep with the lights of St. Thomas as our backdrop, and waking up each morning to that beautiful water.

DK if you booked through a rental agency or owners, but either should be able to tell you about the 2 'back ways' that the owner told us about. Depending upon where you're going, it helps to cut off part of the town traffic or totally avoid it if you're going as far as Maho or Francis or Coral Bay. The one road is drop-dead beautiful views at the beginning part (like North Shore Road), the other can get you out to Pastory Gardens (mini-golf/restaurant place) in a couple minutes. We even walked it one day!

Really, don't worry about your trip; just look forward to it. I think you'll be back on this board after you return giving a glowing trip report. 🙂

Leave your worries state side, please:) No worries here we take things as they come in Love City!

I wonder if there was construction noise when they built Perelandra? Or maybe it was one of those silent construction projects;)
