We are contemplating going to St. John again next year. We stayed at Gallows Point last May-June and I fell in Love with St. John. I really want to go back and think I have my family talked into going in June 2007 for our family vacation. My husband and I loved Gallows, but it is pricey and not as well suited for kids. My kids are 16 and 11.
We are considering Villa Cielomar. The price is reasonable and it looks nice. We like the fact that we can walk to the town of Cruz Bay.
Has anyone stayed there? What is it like? Is it a good choice? We would like to book early so we can get a good price on a flight.

Does anyone know why the date at the top is saying 12/31/1969? It won't let me change it.

Terri -

Trying to help you get bumped back up so you can get an answer (sorry, I don't know) - but on this end I am seeing the correct date. Sometimes you have to log out and the re-log in to get everything working together again.

Thanks.
Do you happen to know a place that is good in St. John that is walking distance from Cruz Bay and would be good for a family of 4?

The date changed once I sent the message. I just thought it was weird that it was saying 1969. I never saw that before.

Terri -

I live on STX - I had to have a map to find my way around STJ for a day or so! I don't know, but hopefully this will kick you up with a new title again and someone will respond...and good luck to you...STJ is exceptionally beautiful, as you know, and I'll bet you're excited to be making plans. I think my friend and I were mistaken for beached whales around Hawksnest, but it was a favorite for us!

I liked Hawksnest too. How lucky you are to live on STX. I wish I could live on the USVI. If I didn't have a family, I would peruse it for sure! I am a director of a WIC program and I know there is one on St. Thomas. I think my family would protest if I made them move there because they like the Wisconsin winters and love snowmobiling.
Thanks so much for trying to bump me up to the top. It seems like no one knows about Cielomar. The pictures of it look beautiful.

C'mon, folks - can anyone give Terri a heads up on a place to look at?

Terri - I guess you found this villa on a paid site? Contact them and ask if they have any reviews or are willing to give you the email address of folks who have previously stayed there to contact. I would think any private villa owner or management company would be happy to at least be an intermediary so you could get some feedback. I can see them not giving you a direct address, but I know if I were contacted by the villa owner on Fish Bay where we stayed in May I would be more than happy to provide a reference....try that and see what you come up with.

This is a link to a short review on the Trip Advisor forum for Villa Cielomar. Hope it helps!

Thanks. I did read that trip advisor review. I also have been e-mailing the manager and have asked a lot of questions. and he has been very helpful. I am just being cautious because we just rented a place in Northern Michigan that looked nothing like the website and brochure. We were disappointed when we arrived because it was dirty and run down.

Does anyone know of any other villa or condo that would be good for a family of 4 (kids 16 and 11) that has a pool and a t.v. and is walking distance from Cruz Bay. I had to talk my husband into this trip instead of Yellowstone so I need to keep the price down ($2000 or less per week for the condo/villa). Cielomar dos not have air-conditioning in every room, which may be OK. It seems like it doesn't have a t.v. which may get boring for the kids in the evening.

Any ideas anyone?

Terri,
You might try looking at the Suite St. John website... http://www.suitestjohn.com/
Richard helped us by renting our rooms at Gallows Point this year (he is an owner there) but he also has properties at Lavender Hill which are close to Cruz Bay (walking distance maybe) and another place called Battery Hill. There are pictures, etc on the website and Richard will be of great help about these and other Cruz Bay villas, condos, etc. Hope this helps,

Kathleen B, Texas

Terri: you might try caribbean villa.com we have rented villas several times from them and have been very happy with them. The last one was called dream catcher overlooking great cruz bay and was reasonably priced at $1500.00 a week in the low seaon. You couldn't walk to cruz bay from there but they have several to choose from that would be walking distance. We always rent a jeep any way to check out all the beaches all over the island.Good luck.

I stayed at Villa Cielomar this spring. It was very nice. Yes, there is a TV in the living room. the sunken hot tub has been replaced with a regular one, so the picture is a bit dated. The second bedroom is more of a loft, and it has a little deck with a water view, a very nice spot to have morning coffee. The pool is perfect. The walk to town is brisk, and closer to 10 minutes. The woodwork is the house is beuatiful, and it was very clean. It was warm when we went, and the ceiling fans did just fine. Pack light, there is all kinds of stuff to use on day trips: umbrella, backpack, towels, folding chairs, coolers, etc. You may contact me if you need more info.

Frank Bay House and Amora Villa.....both in Cruz Bay , with the amenities you want. walk into town ..no problem !! these villas have more room than the 4 of you need but the location is perfect. IMO , anything in Great Cruz Bay is not a walk to cruz bay. theses are listed with caribbean villas... www.caribbeanvilla.com -- i've rented from them many times. it's never too early to plan/book.....many villa reservations fill up fast. good luck !!

We also like to be able to walk into town. We have teenage twin girls and it is nice for them to be able to go into town to shop, etc. Last year we stayed at Palm Terrace Villas. they are actually condos ( 6 total, 3 in each building) the price isn't as high as some villas, because you share the pool. Very Very convenient, and brand new. the 3 bedroom unit is HUMONGOUS!!! Destination St .John is the managing company.
