This is what I have planned so far. 1 week at Secret Harbor. I have 6 full days not including arrival and return. 1 will be spenting 1 day doing the BVI and it seems at least another 2 days for St. John. That leaves me with 3 remaining days. I was going to rent a car for a week but that will be 3 days of not using. I have been reading that parking is a problem at Red Hook for the ferry.

Anybody know how much it will cost from the airport to Secret Harbor for a taxi? Not on the board for Secret Harbor.

Dawn: Lots of people just sit on the beach a day or two, read a good book and drink bushwhackers! 😉

Dawn,

At the top of this page is the "Visitor Info" link and on that page is a "Parking and Transportation" link and there you'll find a link to "Taxi Charges" where there's a link to "St. Thomas Taxi Rates" which includes the following information:

Secret Harbor Resort and Downtown Charlotte Amalie, each way
$15.00 per person, 2+ people $10.00 per person

Secret Harbor Resort and Airport, each way
$18.00 per person, 2+ people $12.00 per person

East Ender,

I plan too spend time on the beach at Secret Harbor. That is the reason I picked it and also to snorkel. I was thinking that maybe a rental car for a week is senseless since 3 out of the 6 days I won't be on St. Thomas.

Is there a grocery store nearby Secret Harbor to get eggs, bacon, coldcuts, etc. Probably will do a picnic lunch but plan on eating dinners out for the week.

I read somewhere on here a while back that Sapphire has a beach party with live music. Anyone know if that is the case in the off season and if so what day? I will be there 5/23/ - 5/30 over the Memorial Weekend. Any other places to spend on the beach with live music?

Dawn:

Regarding the rental car.....I guess it depends.

If you're going alone you'll only be paying for one person for taxis (remember it will be both ways), I guess taxis will work.

For more than one person the charge is per person as described previously.

We (wife & I) always rent a car even if we're going to the BVIs and STJ (which we always do). Having our own car gives us the freedom to go when & where we want to go. In the past we rented from Hertz & Avis. The weekly charge was aroung $180. (with a AAA or Entertainment book discount) plus gas. Gas was usually around $20./week. Total cost was approx. $200./week or $28. per day. If you look at the taxi fares and include a tip the price will add up pretty fast.

Hope this helps you decide.

F.I.

Do you bring your rental car to St. John?

Dawn,

From SH, You will find Food Centre on the road towards downtown heading that direction and Marina Market in Red Hook if you head the other direction. Both are about 5 minutes from SH.

I have done the Sapphire Beach Party in July and August. I think it's a year round thing. Just back from STT. Even though parking is a challenge at the Red Hook ferry, I found street parking with no problem. I too would recommend getting a car. It's worth it for the freedom and less expensive than getting around by taxi.

What day of the week? I don't want to plan my trip to the Baths on the same day.

I can dig, hot diggidy deldog! 😉

(In reading the initial post, I wonder if she was talking about the taxi prices to/from Secret Harbour not being on the board? Grammar is sometimes most difficult!)

I was asking about the price for a taxie from the airport to Secret Harbor in case I don't rent a car. I found the airport price to Red Hook is $11 per person but not listed for Secret Harbour.
