We'll be in STT the Apr 22-29. Didnt realize it was going to be Carnival! We're staying at Elysian Beach near REd Hook and will not have a car so I only want to go in for a coupla events and need input on which ones--Steel jamboree? Friday's Roadmark Kingdom? pre-teen and senior citizen tramps? the 4am dance thru the streets?Calypso competition? cultural fair? children's parade? I'm sure the adult parade Sat is the best, but our plane leaves at 2pm. Is it feasible to try and catch the start and get a taxi to the airport around noon? Appreciate any input

atregg: The Cultural Fair is a lot of fun- vendors with special foods and drink, crafts, music, etc. It occurs during the day downtown and the stores will be open, too.

The first night of Carnival Village is Monday. Again, kinda like the state fair back home- food booths with all sorts of goodies (look for the Barbados Flying Fish Booth, ask who has the best roti, see if you can find a St Kitts Carib) as well as carnival rides for the kids. The first night the Carnival Queen will be there and radio and TV folks will interview you!

The Children's Parade on Friday is pretty interesting. The children are cute and you can't imagine that there would be baton twirlers (tons of them) in the VI. Again, music, food (always food and drink in VI activities!), mocko jumbies and fun! Good photo op, too.

No, I really cant change. We're staying at a time share and it's a standard sat to sat deal. I grew up in New Orleans with Mardi Gras. I know this Carnival is very different and wouldl like to compare. That's why I'm hoping to be able to go drop off our luggage at the airport and come back to catch some of the parade.

Although the Adult Parade is supposed to start at 10AM it goes on Caribbean time and doesn't usually get going until around noon so I'd scratch that idea. Also make sure to book with a taxi driver in advance to get you to the airport as the waterfront, Back Street ad Main Street are highly congested on that day and your driver will probably want to take you "over the hill" and be given enough time to get you there.

An evening at Carnival Village is a "must" as is Thursday's Food Fair and since you won't be able to make the Adult Parade, definitely go for the Children's Parade. You'll enjoy a great experience!
