there is very little surfing here in the VI and not much of a swell ..................

there is a decent swell in hull and carot bays stt when lows come out of the north... however i dont know of anyone giving instruction

No place to surf on STJ...and Hull and Carot Bays are quite a swim from shore out to the break. Not a good pllace to learn. Maybe Apple or Long bay on Tortola? Check the BVI message board...here on Barbdos, however, they're all over the place where I am (St. Lawrence Gap)

While true STJ is not "ideal" for surfing, I have found some surf at Cinnamon Bay on many occasions. Last year it was actually head high. Depends if there's a North swell. There's a small reef just off the beach (100 yds?) in front of the small snack shop. Watch out for a few shallow-water Elkhorn tho.

I think the watersports provider onsite *may* offer a lesson and I know they have boards (as they often lend them to me 🙂
