We'll be in St. Thomas via a cruise ship, but want to take the ferry over and spend the day at Maho Beach. We've spent a week on St. Thomas before and were just in St. John for a week in December, and Maho is our favorite place for beach and snorkeling that is relatively close to Cruz Bay.

I know that you can get taxis to/from Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay easily, but can we do this for Maho? Can we ask a taxi driver to drop us off at Maho and come pick us up at a specific time?

Yes you can. You will have to negotiate a price first and you might also pay them ahead of time for both ways. The first taxi you ask at the taxi stand in Cruz bay will say no so you will have to try a couple of them.

You need to make sure of your times. Depending on when you dock and need to back to the ship, a short day trip to Maho might turn out to be all travel time.

You have to remember that if you're in port on heavy cruise ship days(Tues and Wed mostly) that traffic is gonna be horrendous. You're gonna have to clear the ship, get a taxi to Red Hook, take the Ferry to St. John, get ANOTHER taxi to Maho(15-20 mins), the reverse the whole process in order to make the ship.

NOT trying to discourage you at all, please don't think that. Just want to make sure you're aware of the travel times and everything.

Have a great cruise and fun time in Maho, it's a GREAT beach!

Thanks. We're in port on a Monday and from what I can determine, the only ship in port that day. We're in port from 7:00-5:00, so I thought we would be OK on time. But I just started adding up the costs of the taxis and the ferry, and I don't think it's very cost effective for the amount of time we would have there.

As much as we love Maho, I think we'll taxi over to Secret Harbour. Snorkeling there is usually pretty good and the Blue Moon cafe is always good for lunch and a cold beer!

You might want to consider Lindberg Bay out by the airport. It's where most of the Crown Bay cruise ship folks go to hit the beach for the day. The Island Beachcomber Hotel is there, they have a great lil LOCAL bar right on the beach and killer club sandwiches.

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!
