back in the 60's the Buc had a great rep - 5 Star for sure - after college I worked for the Navy a short time and was involved with sub testing off Fredericksted - we were on per diem & lived with the green lizards at $2 per day in Fredericksted - made a few bucks since we were allowed $50 - back on track now - how is the Buc now - reason I ask is that our son stayed there a year ago and found the staff very unfriendly and the accomodations way below 5 Star - I know this is all personal opinion and he's in the hospitality business in Vegas and so is maybe more critical but if someone has the inside scoop please let me know - my wife and I were thinking of going back based on distant memory .

i hesitated in responding to your post because I am an employee of the Buccaneer. But since no one else has posted, I'll try to respond.

I'm surprised to hear that your relative found the staff unfriendly. If I were asked what is the BEST aspect of the Buccaneer, I would immediately say the staff. Almost all our reviews, even the less-than-flattering ones mention the very friendly staff.

The Buccaneer website has many photos of the accomodations, grounds and beaches. They accurately portray the Buccaneer.

Somebody else please jump-in.

I hope you enjoy your return visit to STX.

personalities and expectations can temper a resort experience. The Buc is the best Resort Hotel on STX.

good response and I agree - to the former for sure - as I remember there were a lot of pluses - close to Buck , golf/tennis right there , a walk to C-sted , and on the beach - I was more curious about the investment that owners have put into keeping the resort in great shape - was just reading an article about Cap J on Anguilla and a 20 million refurbishment project was completed I believe just a couple of years ago - not fair to compare because I don't know the details or reasons for that project - could have been hurricane damage for all I know ??

there used to be another resort , Fountain something I thought ???

Fountain Valley turned into Carambola which is now a Renaissance.
