Looking for some experience here:

We will be landing in STT at 7:00 pm on a Tuesday night.

1) Would we be able to reasonably make the ferry at 8:00 in Red Hook or are we looking at 9:00?

2) What is the probability of getting a taxi at that time of night to run us to Coral Bay?

We'd prefer not to rent a car that late and drive out being we've never driven there before. I like to at least have daylight!

All thoughts welcome!

Thanks!

Gene Francisco

Hmmm, it's not a simple thing. There's a fair chance that you could make the 8:00 ferry if things go right, but there's some chance that things won't go right. Once you do get to Cruz Bay, there's no guarantee that you can get a taxi to take you to your villa. A lot of drivers don't really want to do that. Do you know where to go because a driver may not know how to get to a particular villa just going by its name. And if you did find someone to take you there, you'd be faced with the problem of how to get back to Cruz Bay the next day, which wouldn't be simple to do. Will someone from a management company be meeting you? If so, run it by them to see how they might help.

A possible solution would be to stay either on STT or in Cruz Bay for your first night then start fresh in the morning.

Unless you are doing carry on only I would plan on the 9pm RH ferry.

Chances of a taxi to Coral Bay - I would guess it will be a hard sell especially if you are renting a villa. If you are staying at Concordia there might be a slim chance of someone taking you.

Hopefully your plane is on time. They are usually late. Baggage claim is slow for AA. Usually 30-40 minutes. I believe that most villa managers do greet you after hours for a fee. Might be you best bet.

you might consider staying at best western hotel right next to airport and going over to st. John first thing following am. If someone can meet you in st. John to lead you to your villa and rental car agency that you use is available til late hour to rent you your car you will be ok.
If your plane is late , your problems will only intensify. If you have never been to St John and try to find a villa yourself after dark you may wish you waited til daylight....

Thanks for all of the insights!

We're hoping to have our villa representative meet us at Cruz Bay and take us to Coral Bay (we'll pay her for that). We'll then take the bus back to Cruz Bay the next morning to pick up the Jeep so I can drive leisurely back in the daylight. I just prefer not have any extra excitement the night we get there.

I did call the St John Taxi Association this morning and they said it was no problem and they would have a taxi waiting for us at the dock. We'll see how accurate that is! I guess the first thing I need to do is to take the island approach and not worry about it. Once we get to St John, we'll get to Coral Bay somehow. That's part of the adventure....

Thanks again!
