Happy New Year!
Can anyone recommend some vegetarian friendly restaurants in St. Thomas?
Thanks,
Gail

Are we talking vegan, ovo-lacto or pescetarian?

The Banana Leaf Bistro near Pueblo in Long Bay sponsored a vegetarian feast the other night, and the food was INCREDIBLE! Vegan. I don't know what the hours are, but you can call them at 340-344-4300; 646-260-0141.

Wikked! at Yacht Haven Grande also has some interesting vegetarian choices, but I haven't tried them yet. Their non-vegetarian options are good.

Any of the sushi bars will have veggie options.

There are 2 Rastafarian Ital restaurants in town. Sweet Life Cafe, about a block from Market Square, is the easiest one to get to, but they're only open for lunch. Typical menu is stewed tofu, pasta, brown rice, seasoned potatoes, vegetarian scallops, vegetarian chunks, and some vegetables like mixed vegetables or collard greens.

Most restaurants here offer some type of "vegetarian" option, but these places have either strictly vegetarian or at least more than just one token option.

If you happen to be here on the last Sunday of the month, you'll find lots of vegetarian options at the Bordeaux Farmers' Market.

Thanks for your information, ms411 ! That's just the info I had in mind.
My son-in-law is born and raised Hindu and eats NO meat, fish, chicken but will eat eggs.
It's not always the easiet to dine out with him. Of course, he does well with pasta.
Happy 2010.
Gail

if on a stroll downtown, rootsie's ital is also open, true rasta cooking... and the barefoot buddha across from havensight mall has some very interesting vegetarian sandwiches on their menu. they also buy from local farmers, so they try to be as sustainable as possible.

papa roots' review online: http://www.carivegan.org/2008/12/restaurant-review-rootsies-vegan-meals.html

barefoot buddha: http://www.barefootbuddha.vi/

bon appetit!

Barefoot Buddha closes at around 4 p.m., I think. Most of their food is good, but I don't think they have mayo for their sandwiches! I don't think they serve Cokes, either. Definitely no alcohol. I usually bring my own beverage when I go there. Good selection of teas, though.

I forgot to include The Hubbly Bubbly next door to Wikked. It's a Middle Eastern restaurant so they've got hummus, babaganoush (sp?), falafel, etc.

LOL! barefoot buddha is certainly not like a fast food restaurant!

if it's dinner you want, you may also wish to check out 13, a new restaurant on the north side, they have a flexible kitchen and have some vegetarian selections. i recommend a res, they are very popular, 340-774-6800.
