I know Verizon does not have a tower in St. Thomas, but does texting work?

Yes, text without photos works, at no additional charge, and is covered under your nationwide plan. Phone calls are charged at $1.99 per minute. No data, but with a smart phone just pickup a Wi-Fi signal for all your email/internet data needs.

Thanks. Was trying how to get by without a phone. Will have other family on island that have AT&T.

I've had Verizon for every trip I've made down, and always had at least spotty data in the last 3 or 4 years, even on STJ. It completely depends where you're at, and possibly your phone itself. My wife gets better data than I do, even though she has an older phone.

Don't know if this would be of interest and I know you're not looking for a 'phone but the 'phone is only $9.99 and the monthly rate of $30 includes unlimited calls and texting:
