Well we started to plan for our next return to STJ. The group has been looking at what is open for a 10 day visit in our window, and it appears that Villa Adagio continues to come to the #1 spot on everybody’s list. It seems a little over the top for me, but hey everyone has watched their 401K become a 201K and they want to spend a little extra for the good life.

My daughter swam competitively for years - with a pool in the living room I would think the smell of chlorine would be overwhelming. The last thing I want to do is smell a pool for 10 days.

Anybody ever stay at this villa? Thanks

Never been to that villa, but I'm not sure I see the point in having an indoor pool in paradise. Our pool guy at the villa last year told us that most people have salt water pools and not chlorine, so that would help with the smell.

Yep - but not being strong suited in chemistry - I would have thought that you we need the sunlight to extract the chlorine out to the salt naturally. Hence I figured since this dipping pool was inside it would use chlorine vice salt.

I almost want to rent the place just to see whats up with this pool. *-)

I don't know if I've ever seen a review anywhere for this villa. I'm sure someone would mention it if it's an issue. With the rental market the way it is, I'm not sure anyone would tell you "No, you don't want to stay here, it stinks like chlorine." I had friends who had an indoor pool and it was closed off in its own room, and the rooms near it did smell. Of course, this was probably 20 years ago and technology has improved since then.

It does bring out the curiosity, but if the house has an odor, that could spoil your vacation, especially if anyone has a chemical sensitivity.

Perhaps the sun plays a part in the process of salt to being clean water in a salt pool, but I have a salt pool and the system has a do-hickey that either alters the NaCl (salt) or assists the change to clorine with the salt content being close to tears. Please excuse the technical jargon.

I did find a review for this house, and their only complaint was that the pool was cold because it's "solar-heated" but it's inside. Not sure when your trip is, but maybe something to think about.

Also, what company were you going through. I noticed it's listed with lots of agencies, so I'm wondering if they have an on-island manager.

Redhook - that could be true - it could have some kinda of giddgy gadget that does smoke and mirrors part and wallah clean water.

But I am like Lulu - I have been on this board as well as others for some time and never heard or seen anything on this villa.

It looks like a great villa, and not a bad price for what they are offering. I would just check to make sure they have an on-island manager since it's listed with so many companies, some of which were not on-island. I have just heard horror stories with this kind of situation lately, so whenever I see a place listed by many companies, I want to know who is actually responsible for helping if something goes wrong.

According to the one review I saw, the villa used to be called Escape, but the new name came with the remodel so comments about that version probably wouldn't be too helpful anyway. I haven't seen much on it either, but I would think if it were a dog it wouldn't be listed with so many agencies.

Tom:

Villa Adagio is a beautiful villa. I have been there many times and have never smelled chlorine. If you are getting a good deal then go for it otherwise if you'd rather be outdoors around a pool shop around. The beaches on STJ are beautiful and would be were I would spend my days on STJ and the pool would be for late afternoon/nightime enjoyment. Wherever you decide to stay...enjoy!

Our group got together last night and moved the villa down on the list
Like the location - But bang for the buck there seems to be better.
Ahhhhhh who needs a pool in their living room anyway 😉

My sweetie and I have been going to STJ since 1978 - We have always been Cruz Bay side folks

We talked was of shaking it up staying on the otherside of Bordeaux Mountain in that other area...

Whats called... 😀

You know it is funny how folks on STJ pick one side or the other. We love Coral Bay area and beaches, but never gave a second thought of staying over there. This may be the year!

We were going to shake it up and were leaving our normal Great Cruz Bay area and stay out on the East End. Our villa fell through and now we're overlooking Chocolate Hole.

Honestly, I like being closer to town. If I stayed far out, the villa would have to be nice because I wouldn't want to go out as much if it required a long drive. I love St John beaches, but the roads scare me!

You'll have to let us know what you end up choosing!
