Hey, looking to return to the islands sometime soon and was wondering if anybody stayed at the Virgin Grand Villas on St. John.
Were a family of 4 with 2 teenagers and would like to stay in a two bedroom villa. Anything about the resort would be helpful..

I believe the Virgin Grand Villas that you speak of is actually the Westin Virgin Grand Villas. There are a lot of people here that would tell you to stay somewhere else, but we own at the Westin (resale) and love the villas. We do not rent ours (we go every year), but do not rent from Westin - you can get them for a lot cheaper on rental websites like Redweek and such. Plus - as other may mention - there are a lot of other rentals out there.

We actually have a timeshare with Wyndham and the Westin is one of the places we can pick from. What is it that people would tell me to go somewhere else?

We also have a week at the Westin and go there every year. We don't trade it or rent it. Checkout their website. There's lot's of pictures and you'll find the floorplans for the villas there somewhere.

There's nothing wrong with the Westin. From what I've read here, I think that alot of people are down on it because it's very expensive to rent directly from them. Their rack rates are extremely high. If you do that, you'll definitely find better deals renting a villa privately. Or like Blujahz says, you can find owners willing to rent for a lot less. It also has a man made beach which doesn't compare with any of the other beaches on the island. But that's no big deal because there are only a handful of private villas on the island that do have direct water access. Rent a car and you can get to any beach pretty quickly.

One thing to consider..
Although you have a timeshare with Wyndham and the Westin SJ is on the list, you may find that you can't exchange it. Not that many people put their week in the 'pool' so it just never comes up for exchange. If they don't go, there are sites where they can list the week and rent it out themselves. Alot of people take advantage of that. We tried for years to exchange a week thru Interval International, and it never worked out. We finally rented a studio for a week for $600 thru a special deal that Interval put together. Obviously, we got hooked! We'll be back again on June 1st. Can't wait!!
