My wife and I are looking to get from Charlotte Amalie to St. Croix via water on Wed. Feb. 9 at about 2:30 PM and return from St. Croix on Wed. Feb.16 at about noon. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions/recommendations?

There are only two water taxi operations on STT, Dohm's and Dolphin and even if either of them would make that sort of a trip it would cost you two arms and two legs. There is an on-again off-again ferry between STT and STX but it's a long ride, often very rough and not dependable. Take a flight. Seaborne has regular flights back and forth and the seaplane trip is delightful.

You cannot travel between STT & STX in a small power boat. It would take 2-3 hours and would be a bumpy, uncomfortable, possibly dangerous trip. There is a ferry that runs sporadically and even it takes 90 minutes. You need to rethink your plan. I would suggest Seaborne Airlines.

Thanks, the wife is afraid of small planes but I'll have to convince her.

Seaborne has an excellent reputation and the flight is smooth as can be, A water trip between STT and STX is WAY more tempestuous than a seaplane flight could ever be. Cheers!

Seaborne is defiantly the fun way to get between STT and STX.

I am not a great small-plane traveler, but the seaplane flight from CA to Christiansted is short, scenic and delightful. Part of the vacation experience. However, if she is not comfortable with small planes, do not take Cape Air from STT to STX airport, as they fly Cessnas which are even smaller (9 seats)!

PS At check-in, they do not only weigh every bag you carry, checked or not, but they also ask you how much you weigh - warn her in advance if that might be an issue for her! 🙂
