moving to st thomas on the 28th of thisdecember, haven't looked much at apartment rentals for the moment, my work is providing internship accomodation but i would much rather live independently and in a happening place... I would like to live in an area that is convenient supermarket wise, safe and and preferably were there younger crowd of singles.. Any suggestions?? is craigslist the best place to look for an apartment rental st thomas??

i really appreciate any feedback!

Craigslist is generally useless here - Island Trader is the best info - take the given accommodations for a while and learn about the island.

Click on the link above which says, "Moving? Visit Relocation Message Board" and you'll see at the top of the page a bar which will provide you with a ton of information related to moving and living here. It's a "must read" which will make the transition a lot easier for you and once you've familiarized yourself with the basics there's a classified forum which lists several available apartments along with an active forum where you can find answers to many other questions. Once you're here you can start looking around and see what area would be most convenient for you as there's no one area in particular which can accommodate all your needs. You WILL need a car here. Good luck!

Respectfully, I disagree that Craigslist is a bad place to look for apartments. Often the postings there are more detailed than those found in local papers, ads are updated more often and there is increasingly more variety on Craigslist. There are a few bad apples (scammers) in the bunch on Craigslist, but that is true with all such Internet ads. As long as you bear in mind the importance of seeing a place before giving money, and remember that if it sounds too good to be true it usually is, scammers can usually be avoided. (There is a thread over on the Relocation Message Board about fake ads on Craigslist--you may want to check that out).

Check out Virgin Islands craigslist at

I agree, though, that the Island Trader and the Daily News do offer some good leads as well.

I agree double with the advice to take the housing offered by your employer and use that as a base from which to explore the island.

Best,

we use Crigs List as I find it BETTER the the trader. As far as the best place to live you need to determine that yourself. When you look for apartments look around and determine if this is a place you can walk at night. If it is not then that is not a place for you.
