Hi …this past Sunday our newspaper here in RI had a full page article on stx and mentioned a restaurant in Cane bay called the waters edge…said it was right on the beach with picnic tables? Anyone know where this is? …any info would be great….. Thank you very much
….also the article in the paper was very positive……except for the mention of all the housing projects and the shooting of tourists 30 years ago …….

Was it the Waves at Cane Bay?
http://www.thewavesatcanebay.com/

There are no housing projects anywhere in the general vicinity of Cane Bay—they are all either in Frederiksted or Christiansted with a few mid-island. The shooting 30 years ago was a botched robbery gone awry and was not directed at tourists, and in fact some locals were killed too. But somehow St Croix has never been able to escape the legacy of that event, called the "Fountain Valley Massacre" Meanwhile a tourist was robbed in STT a few weeks ago, and two last year, and I don't see much negative impact. I'd be interested to find out if there was any negative press stateside. Anyway, glad the article you read was positive!

Right at Cane Bay Beach there is a picnic type restaurant/bar that is right on the sand. I parked next to them today but didn't notice the name. The Blue Moon is the new name of the restaurant across the street. We ate about 100yards down at "Off the Wall" Great place. The Waves at Cane Bay and Cane bay beach club are small "hotels" further down but is difficult to tell if and when they are open. At least one of them is for sale.

Did The Waves at Cane Bay restaurant open this year?…I dont think so?.
Still wondering where this writer in the paper ate at…………..

He stayed at Sugar Beach .so there are a few projects there….he wrote nothing negative about the projects just that chains bars and padlocks were a reminder that St Croix does still have a reputation of having a lot of crime. He then goes on to explain STT and STJ had higher crime rates in half the square miles.
The article, written in the Providence Journal, the Rhode Island news paper, said the shootings took place at the Fountain Valley Golf Course. which is now know as Carambola golf course………He stated, five men gunned down 11 golfers and 8 were killed ,, his point was the incident has affected the islands reputation and tourism for the past 30 years.

Would love to know where this reporter ate, he raves about it????
Thanks for the input

There are a variety of restaurants on the north shore. The names are:

Starting from the west:

At Carambola Beach Resort, there is a restaurant and bar. The name for the main restaurant changes periodically.

On the beach at Cane Bay there is "Sprat Net". It's mainly a deck with a bar and not much else.

Across the street there is "The Full Moon Bar at Cane Bay" that was formerly known as "Cane Bay Beach Bar". This one is a bar and also has a restaurant with bar food and appetizers.

1/4 mile east and on a rocky waterfront rather than a sandy beach is "Off the Wall". They have a bit of a broader menu than the new Full Moon Bar.

A little further east you have "The Waves at Cane Bay" attached to The Waves hotel. I've never eaten there and don't know what kind of food they have.

Then you have "Bogey's". Here you find basic bar food and appetizers plus whatever the special of the night is. Sometimes pasta, sometimes Mexican, sometimes lobster, etc.

If you continue east into La Vallee you will reach "Lobster Reef". They also have bar food and appetizers and some additional specialties that are usually pretty good. When they bring in a band for a festival they also set up a great BBQ in the field and the food is wonderful.

The next food to the east would be at Salt River, where you have "Columbus Cove". Again you get the typical menu items plus fish chowder and flying fish and other seafood specialties. They do prime rib one night a week, also.

All the restaurants have picnic tables.

By the writers saying that this place is right at the waters edge, near Cane Bay and has picnic tables-- sounds like Off the Wall to me.

Off the Wall and Sprat Net and Bogey's are all right at the water's edge. Lobster Reef is also waterfront, but up the bank from the beach. Sprat Net is directly on Cane Bay Beach and Off the Wall is just along the eastern edge of Cane Bay
