*how long is the marriage lidense good for once you have applied? Is it indefinite? Or does it have to be used within 3 months or 6 months or a year?

Thank you

To add a question to this--- How far in advance do you need a license, and what info do you need?I've looked on the wedding site and am confused.

Hello Kristi and Pam,

The application fee is $50 and the license is $50 - so $100 total.

You have to apply a minimum of 8 days prior to the wedding. It takes 8 days to process the application.

The application is good for 1 year - so you must get married within one year of the application.

The license is issued when you get married.

The application form ask questions like your names, addresses, birthdays, social security numbers, parents names and where they are from, nationality of everyone... if you have been divorced - you must include the divorce certificate. When you request the application it includes what information you need to provide. Application must be typed. The 8 day time frame is because there is a law that states wedding applications must be posted for the public to view in the office of the court. There are exceptions to this posting-8 day law which the application form has a spot for.

Bride and Groom must personally appear before the Clerk of the Court to be examined under oath before the application/license is notartized and issued to you. Some form of identification is required. No physical exam or blood test is required.

Hope that helps clear up your questions, if there are more ask!!

Kristi -

Just to add my two cents... it is definitely very easy to get married in the USVI!! We sent in our application/fees in early November, got sworn in during late November, and returned the following March to marry. The 12-month window to get married in is great to have! It definitely benefitted us.

You will certainly not go wrong getting married in the USVI!
