Hello Everyone,
My husband and I are headed down to STJ for the first time in early February for 4 nights and 5 days. We are staying at Maho Bay. So if it was your first time to STJ what would you not miss?

Favorite hike?

Favorite restaurant?

Favorite place for some Saturday night fun? Preferrably with dancing?

Favorite beach?

Best place to possible spot a sea turtle?

We don't presently have plans to rent a car.....not sure if we want the added expense especially since we are traveling for such a short time.

Also, our plane gets in at 4:30 ish. Am I reading the ferry schedule correctly, the last Amalie ferry leaves at 5:30? I don't think we will be able to catch that one......

If we can't catch it we will need to go to Red Hook. Maho recommends eating in town if you are arriving late so any recommendations on where to eat near the Red Hook ferry would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Yes what types of food does JJ's have?? You mean I have missed it during 2 different trips? shame on me!!

Hey Bert.
Thanks for the info on Waterlemon. I plan to take my mom with me. SHe is in great shape and a great swimmer. But I was still worried about it. They always talk about that current. Do you go from the end of the trail (the shorter route out) or the long way over the bay? Which way do you snorkel around the Cay? Start to the right if your facing it or the left to avoid the drag of the current and just go with it.

Asrai,
I usually wear a life vest if I snorkel somewhere that I feel like I get nervous. I have the same problem. SO the vest is my comfort zone. It just limits you from diving down. WHich is okay for me because I have asthma and can't hold my breath worth a darn. So I tend to stay on top of the water.

Asrai,

Rhumblines is on the other side of the park from the ferry dock. As you leave the ferry dock, you'll cross a street and you'll be in the park. It's small. Ask anyone where Rhumblines is and they'll direct you. Last I knew you had to enter from the side of the building away from the park, but that might have changed. It's our favorite restaurant. We'll be there about 7 PM on May 31st (our first nite on STJ) can't wait!

As for Waterlemon, I remember we swam counter clockwise around it and it wasn't a problem. But I don't really recall which way the current goes. Worst case, you find yourself trying to go against it. Just turn around and go the other way. If you're not a strong swimmer, or are a nervous swimmer, rent a snorkeling vest. It'll keep you afloat so you can relax a little more.

Meredith,

We saw that huge barracuda last year at Francis. My wife was snorkeling with her head down and looked up just before she swam into it! She couldn't have been more than 5 feet away and totally freaked. Guess she figured she wasn't quite at the top of the food chain after all. :$) But the fish never got aggressive at all. Probably just curious....at least that's what we kept saying to calm her down.
