Hi,

My husband and I are going to be in St. Thomas for two full days in March before we board the Windjammer cruise ship for 6 days touring the USVIs and the BVIs. We are booked in the Island Beachcomber Hotel, but are debating booking at Hotel 1829. Can anyone tell us, first of all, the pros and cons of each hotel?

Also, what are some good but reasonable places to eat, and what should we not miss seeing during those two days? We plan on going shopping and seeing some historic sites in Charlotte Amalie, and are also looking at the tram to Paradise Point and visiting Mountain Top. What else should we try doing? We will be doing snorkeling on our cruise.

Should we rent a car or just take taxis? Can anyone give us an approximate cost for taxis to each of these areas from the two hotels I mentioned above?

Thanks for any info.

Since the beach is not going to be big on your list being on that cruise and all, I would recommend staying at 1829. Nicer place, right in town, very "historical".

Other things you might want to check out while here:

-Coral World
-St. John
-"BOB Underwater Adventure" (www.bobusvi.com)
-Atlantis Submarine
-Duffy's Love Sack (or all of Red Hook, actually)
-Mohagany Run Golf Course ( http://www.mahoganyrungolf.com/)
-Udder Delight (best milkshakes on the planet!!)

Two days won't be enough! Haha! But you are going to LOVE that Windjammer cruise!!

Hello Marcia,

Island Beachcomber is on a beach.... 1829 is in town; you could walk to shopping, restaurants for lunch, historical sites. What sounds better to you; beach time or convienience to town?

Sibs on the Mountain is very good and reasonable. Hook, Line and Sinker in Frenchtown is another and Tickles as well.

If you are looking at historic properties, check out crystalpalaceusvi.com. It is a lovely B & B in town with a very charming host! 😉

I , too, would add Coral World to your itinerary. A great way to get an idea of the underwater world you will see on your snorkeling adventures.

If you stay in town, Cuzzin's restaurant iwill give you an introduction to local food. Also wander Frenchtown and check out the menus there.

Thanks all, for the suggestions. Since our trip isn't until March, we will look at the activities, etc. and put together an itinerary. So look for more questions from me in a couple of months! Thanks again, your message board has a wealth of information!!
