Summertime in the Virgin Islands: July!

July in the Virgin Islands includes commemorating Emancipation (July 3rd), celebrating 4th of July, and for the French community on St. Thomas a big Bastille Day celebration. Summertime brings lots of live music, there are restaurants reopening, and on St. Croix you can enjoy Jump Up, Mango Melee and crab races!

VI History – Emancipation Day

July 3rd is Emancipation Day in the USVI. A rebellion on St. Croix by people who desired freedom from slavery pushed Governor Peter von Scholten on July 3rd, 1848 to declare slavery abolished. Learn More
Celebrating being American and French

Happy 4th of July! The 4th is a holiday in the USVI, and some celebrate with BBQs and beach parties. The biggest party is of course the St. John Festival Parade.

St. Thomas is home to a large population of people of French descent and they celebrate their heritage on Bastille Day with fishing, music, dancing and food. Learn More
