Can anyone tell me about how far a walk it is from the cruise ship into town. I will be with my parents 75 &82 years old and would like to walk them into town. They do okay but not great. Can anyone advise?

I'm guessing that your ship is docking in Havensite. There are alot of stores there and there's some pretty good shopping. If you want to go to Charlotte Amalie, you can see it right from Havensite. My concern is how mobile your parents are. My Mom is 85 and I think she could only do Havensite. Keep in mind that there are taxis there to make it easier on your parents and on you.

Have a great time!

DO NOT attempt to walk into town...it looks so close but it is so far...it is a long and HOT walk around the apron and into town. The same shops that are in town are in the Havensight Cruise Ship Mall but if you want a more local atmosphere (plus crowds) then go to town by all means but take a taxi or safari bus. No problem finding a ride "Back-to-the-ship" since so many drivers will try to get your business at every step! Have fun and drink plenty of water.

Hello Adrienne,

Ships dock in Havensight and in Crown Bay. Havensight to downtown is about 1.4 miles, a little shorter if you walk through Yacht Haven Grande Marina instead of around it. Crown Bay to downtown is a little further, about 1.7 miles.

When there are 6-7 ships in port one is usually at anchorage. Passengers are tendered right to the Charlotte Amalie waterfront - downtown.

And the taxi rates from either dock are only $4/person, so I'd definitely taxi....

Another concern would be walking around with them once you get to town. The sidewalks are VERY crowded when ships are in port, and the streets are not closed to traffic.
