I will be in St. John in May and have a villa with a kitchen - any grocery stores around, either St. John or St. Thomas

Thanks for any help

Sorry, please restate you question. Are you saying you think we may not have groceries? Or are you asking if there is something near you? If so, let us know where your villa is.

There are several major grocery stores on St Thomas and several smaller stores on St John. Some visitors (specially larger groups, families, etc.) rent their vehicle on St Thomas and make a stop en route to the car barge to pick up supplies as prices on St Thomas are generally lower, while others rent on St John and buy their supplies on that island.

I wish I knew what "staples" will be available in our villa when we arrive. NOt sure whether to go to grocery store before we go to the villa or simply wait till next day. Since we can't go to villa till 3 pm, I hate to have to go out after we get there. I would rather absorb some rays by the pool.
Oh, well, my hunger will determine the decision I am sure. I just hate to buy some things and then find them already stocked in the villa.

Nine more days.

oh my... the internet communication does not lend itself very well to nuance.

callie, there are two big grocers on st. john, in cruz bay. if renting a car, recommend you have your island guide direct you to dolphin market or starfish market. pricing highest for groceries on st. john because of the added shipping cost.

some like to stop for lower-priced large quantities at "costco-like" cost u less or price smart on st. thomas on the weymouth rhymer highway... you can make this stop on the way... there is also plaza extra in the same general area (tutu park mall) with a pretty large selection including gluten-free, halal, kosher and vegetarian...

hope this helps!

There is a great new market just about across the street from the Westin. They have a great selection of just about everything.

Anyone know some of the prices at the markets on St John as compared to buying on St Thomas? Prices for meats, chicken, produce, breads,
I'll be there for a week in May and have a large party of 10. I have no clue !

Plan on buying most of your provisions on STT. For that number of people you will see a substantial savings.

This should help:

www.costuless.com/store037

I shop at CostULess a lot but know NOTHING about this new online shopping they're offering. Frankly I wouldn't trust it to work well but the store itself has everything you need under one roof, the prices are very competitive and selections in all departments are more than adequate. Have fun!
