That's a tough call during Christmas week as even at the best of times most places have a 3 night minimum. Try the Best Western Emerald Beach. They do take single night reservations, and reviews are always good. They're located on a lovely beach on the airport road so that would be very convenient for your rental pickup. The Windward Passage hotel on the waterfront might also be a possibility.

We stayed at the holiday inn in Charlotte Amelie for one night when we visited St john a couple of years ago at Christmas time. I believe it has changed affiliation and is now called the Windward Passage Hotel. I checked their on-line reservations and they will rent for a single night. It wasn't a 5 star hotel but it was clean, quiet and met our needs for one night.
