I looked in the trip advisor and had reviews from good to bad.....don't know if all of the feedback are truly written by individuals or other hotel competitors.

Anyway.....anyone here know personally about the Wyndam in St. Thomas - it has the all inclusive....I am torn about booking the reservation. I would appreciate any feedback

Thank you.

Hi!

We just came back yesterday from the Wyndham Sugar Bay- and we LOVED it. We are making plans now to go back with our boys next year. The rooms were lovely, the food was excellent - all of the staff we encountered were very friendly. We were able to get an upgrade on our room to an ocean front - and what a spectacular view!!! The only drawback is the beach which is a bit small - but suited us fine as now is the time to go - the is their off season and it was not crowded at all.

What other info would you like - I could go on and on about what a great time we had!!!!

Bridget

Hello,

I completely sympathize with you regarding “reading reviews”. It seems like the more research you do the more you find “some people” loving the resort and “some people” hating the resort.

The Wyndham Sugar Bay is simply one of those resorts that either you are going to like or dislike. I honestly do not believe there is any “middle ground”.

The majestic ride up to this resort is only surpassed by an impressive “old style Caribbean” lobby that welcomes you with all the grandeur of this sized resort.

First, some good news. I have yet to hear anyone complain about the food, or the cleanliness of the resort. That’s a good thing.

Secondly, let’s talk about the rooms. If you are going with the expectation of a five star resort, than you may be slightly disappointed with the rooms. If you are going with the expectations of a “nice resort”, I believe you will be pleasantly surprised.

What do guests complain about regarding the rooms? Mainly the view. When you look at that famous picture Wyndham has been using for a little too long it looks like everyone room has a truly enchanted view. Unfortunately, this is not true. There are “resort view” rooms, “mountain view” rooms, etc., etc. The rooms everyone seems to want are the ones that face St. John directly. Needless to say, not everyone gets their wish. If you are lucky enough to snag one of those, than my friend, it doesn’t get much better. Watching the lights come on one by one on St. John will send a chill up your spine.

The pool area is fantastic. It’s large and family/couple friendly. One of the reasons however why the pool is very nice is there is a very little beach at this facility. I believe “Frommers” states, “the beach is small for this sized facility on the water in St. Thomas.” If you are going to St. Thomas to spend mucho time on the beach, and you are not willing to rent a car or take a taxi/dollar taxi it to a beach, you will have a problem. Walking to another beach is quite a walk to say the least.

In additional to complaints about the beach, I hear a few regarding the pool area itself. You are literally surrounded by building, rock, and grounds. It’s a beautiful setting, but you can’t sit at the pool and overlook the Caribbean or neighboring islands like you can at so many other beach front resorts. You could literally spend the day at the pool here and not really know if you are in St. Thomas or Arizona.

I have spoken to couples who have felt “trapped” at this complex, especially if they are not on the all inclusive plan. I have also talked to people who feel the “seclusion” is just what the doctor ordered.

If you are the type of vacationer who is gong to spend a day in St. John, a day at Magens, a day shopping downtown, etc., etc, you’ll be fine provided, as I said earlier, you rent a car or use a taxi. If you are the type of vacationer that likes to just sit at one resort, not move, eat lots, have a few drinks, relax and rest, this resort will also be perfect for you. Lastly, if you are the type who likes to walk the beach, walk to neighboring resorts and restaurants, this is not your resort.

I hope I helped a little. I was speaking to Bridget earlier, the nice lady who also sent you info regarding the resort, who just returned with her husband and had a more than memorable time at this resort.

If I can be of any further assistance, please drop me an email.

Wayne
