Sharks???

June 23, 2017 10:59AM

hi everyone,
I am currently on vacation in St. John and saw 2 nurse sharks yesterday snorkeling with my older sister off of Scott's Beach. We were about 8 feet away from them and they were swimming around each other in circles, minding their own business. One of them started swimming towards us to come pretty close, (maybe like 4 feet) so my sister and I swam away from the reef. Neither of us were scared, but we decided it was best to keep our distance, as we know nurse sharks are just as friendly as any other fish or sea creature. I was looking at the similar topic discussed on this website about seeing sharks and if so what types, and some people said they saw blacktip sharks and lemon sharks as well as a type of hammerhead. However, this was discussed in 2009-2012, and I was wondering if anyone might have an answer to this question that is more accurate for today. Also, everyone was talking about the Maho and Trunk area, and I am staying on a different part of the island, The Caneel Bay Resort. Please give me your thoughts/answers!! I am going on a scuba/snorkeling trip tomorrow and I would like to know what to expect. Thank you! Also let me know if there is any other creature spotted on the reefs that you don't normally see, I saw a squid yesterday around Paradise Beach.
